Katarina Wit started skating when she was five. Her natural talents began to show her admission was granted to an Karl-Marx-Stadt school that specializes in youngsters with sporting ability. There she met their trainer Jutta M ller. Witt made her breakthrough year in 1982, when she finished second at the World Championships held in Copenhagen. Then, she was dominating the sport thanks to her elegance and grace. Olympic Erfolg At the Sarajevo Winter Games in 1984, Katarina won the gold medal for women's figure-skating after a fiercely contested contest. In a tighter competition the following year, Witt won the medal. Witt actually fell short of the free skating competition, but was awarded the gold medal based on her performances in the mandatory figures as well as the short-form program. Witt was the first repeat winner in women's figure skating since Sonja Henie. Hall of Fame Witt had many successes in her acting career however, she returned to figure skating in order to compete during the Lillehammer Winter Games of 1994. The team finished seventh, but she wowed the crowd despite not winning an award. Witt's entry into the World Figure Skating Hall of Fame was held in 1995.
