Adults are humans or animals that have reached their full development. In the context of humans an adult's term has implications that are based on social and legal concepts. In contrast to a non-adult or "minor", a legal adult is a person who has reached the age of majority, and therefore is considered independent, self-sufficient, and responsible. Legal adults can also be called a major. The average age at which you can attain the legal age of adulthood is 18 however, definitions can differ based on laws, countries as well as the stage of psychological development.

If a person attains full intellectual and physical maturity, it is referred to as adulthood. Commonly, adulthood begins around the age of 21 or 20. The age of old is 60 years later than middle age.
